Snowshoeing and Winter Hiking

Western Maryland with its abundant snowfall and scenic beauty is a great place to get out and enjoy the winter wonderland.

Average snowfall exceeds 90" and usually we get more with some storms dumping several feet at a time. There have been winters with 4 feet of snowpack by the end of February. Snowshoes leave a trail to follow home and you can pretty much go anywhere since the brush is buried.

Swallow Falls State Park

The falls loop trail is one of the most scenic winter trails found anywhere. When the snow falls from the Hemlock and Pine boughs it sparkles and is magical. The frozen waterfalls and giant icicles are beautiful and the hushed quiet of the woods in winter is sure to rejuvenate you.
